Multi-scale Component Manufacturing and Assembly
In Research Focus Area 2, multi-scale component manufacturing and assembly take centre stage. The objective is to assemble preformed semi-finished parts into large components using innovative processes. These are processed cooperatively by multiple mobile production units simultaneously. This approach challenges the conventional notion that manufacturing machines must exceed the size of the component. Instead, smaller, networked machines enable flexible and efficient machining of large structures, thereby overcoming previous process limitations.
For high component quality, precise positioning and referencing of the mobile units relative to the component are critical, alongside suitable production and assembly methods.
