At the SCALE research facility, researchers are exploring innovative approaches to sustainable, efficient, and scalable production. The aim is to develop manufacturing technologies that operate independently of size and production volume while meeting both ecological and economic requirements. In doing so, SCALE makes a significant contribution to advancing resource-efficient production and achieving high-quality, holistic material recycling.

Seven Research Focus Areas

Across seven interconnected research areas, the entire lifecycle of scalably manufactured components is examined – from preforming by forming technology through subtractive and additive processes to the reintegration of materials into closed recycling loops. A particular emphasis is placed on the development of modular production units, cutting-edge sensor systems, and intelligent process controls that enable flexible, data-driven manufacturing. Through close collaboration among the participating institutes at the Production Technology Centre Hannover, practical solutions for the production technologies of the future are being developed.
